I really enjoyed this final project and it probably is my favorite overall. I loved being able to film an interesting subject outside of school and be out in the fresh air. Julian Peng and I filmed the Ladue Ultimate Frisbee teams end of the year tournament. We really liked getting the new experience of watching an actual ultimate frisbee game which I had not had the opportunity to see before. One problem we ran into was the wind, because it sometimes came over natural sound, but it really wasn't an issue. We gathered a lot of footage to use for the project which made editing easier and more fun. My favorite shot that we got was of the team huddled up doing the "Due Time" cheer to get pumped up for the game. I also think we had two very good characters to work with and they both gave us some very good sound bytes. I really enjoyed taking this class and I'm really sad it's over. It has changed my outlook on careers and I am inspired to continue to make videos.
Overall, I really enjoyed this project. It was beneficial to learn more about the software and also how the news is produced for television. I enjoyed learning how to do a sound bridge in the beginning and end to ease transition between natural sound and the interview's audio. I regret not white balancing a couple of my shots but other than that I think most of the shots are visually appealing. I really like how the interview turned out despite the fact that the subject was inexperienced and did not provide a lot of pertinent information about the class. I really enjoyed this project and getting to learn even more about Final Cut Pro X and I'm looking forward to the final project and the challenges it will entail.
This was a very fun project and ultimately became one of my favorites so far. I really enjoyed the research portion of the project because I got to gather some inspiration for my own story, and see what elicited an emotional response from me. I ultimately decided to go with a sad story because when I was reading some of the stories that were out there, I was affected the most by the sad ones. I decided to go with something about my parents divorce and settled on "Celebrated My Birthday At Mom's House". One challenge I ran into was that no cameras were available so I had to use my iPhone to film the shots. I also had to have my mom hold the camera for some of the shots and I was getting really nervous that the shots would not turn out the way I wanted them to. Once I edited the project I was very proud of my work and I also received many compliments from my classmates. Overall, I really enjoyed this project and I am very happy with the way it turned out.
Researching for six word stories was really cool! I did a similar project last semester in Composition and really enjoyed it. The first site I visited was http://www.sixwordstories.net/ and I was surprised to find that almost all of the stories were really sad. Yet, I still found that the sad stories were the most effective in this form of writing. I decided to take that direction in my own six word story and write it about the divorce of my parents. Some of my favorite stories were, "Born a twin; Graduated only child" and "Torched the haystack. Found the needle." I'm really looking forward to the video portion of this project.
This was a very entertaining project. I really enjoyed getting to learn about the cameras and how to set up a good shot. I also really enjoyed learning the difference between a wide, medium, and tight shot, and I found myself at home actually thinking about cinematography while I was watching television. The next thing we did is we went all around the school to take video, which was really cool because we got to shoot in a variety of environments. My favorite shot was the art shot in which I included one of the painting classes projects, which was an emblem for the soccer team. My least favorite shot was the one of the trophy case because it was really hard not to get a reflection from the glass in the shot. The next thing we did was put our shots into Final Cut Pro X in order to learn about the software. The first thing we did once we were in the application was we applied all sorts of different effects, which was undoubtedly my favorite part of the software. Then we applied transitions and text to the shots. My least favorite part of the project was applying text to the shots because I don't feel that I did it very well. It didn't seem to fit the shots, and it's definitely something I want to improve on in the future. Overall, I enjoyed this project and it was a great learning experience.
The headline newscast unit was a very cool one. I really enjoyed the experience of writing the script, and getting in front of the camera. One thing that was difficult in the beginning was cutting information to shorten the broadcast to fit the time constraints. Another element of this unit that I found difficult was being consistent with the pace of the other anchor. Sometimes my partner would read to fast, making me have to slow down so we could have the full amount of required time. This sort of made me look tired and not energetic because I was worried about grading. I feel that overall I did a pretty good job despite my absences at the beginning of the unit and therefore loss of instruction.
I read most of my news as opposed to watching it, and I usually get it from MSNBC, Business Insider, and Forbes. I get my news from these sites because I enjoy the articles these sites put out and the subject matter they deal with. It is important to know the news because what is going on in the world ultimately affects our lives.
http://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/oscarssowhite-boycott-earns-support-capitol-hill I think this article is important because it deals with the major issue of race and exclusion when it comes to the world of movies. It tackles the issue of opportunities for minorities in Hollywood and also the lack of diversity in the voting board of The Oscars. I learned a lot from being in the studio for the first time because I did not have much previous knowledge about how a broadcast actually runs. I also learned that every role is necessary to make the production run smoothly. I liked being the Talent and the Technical Director the best. I liked being the Talent because I got to talk and be in front of the camera. I also liked being the Technical Director because I got to control what is on screen and control the transitions. I think being the Director was the most difficult because I had to direct everyone and be perfectly on time. I really enjoyed this unit!
I really enjoyed working on this project as it allowed me to look back at pictures of my past. I think that I executed making creative text really well. I also think that I chose a theme that fit well with the subject matter. One thing I was not pleased with while doing this project was the limitations of iMovie trailers. This is in the sense that some of the transitions aren't in sync with my pictures, and they do not highlight the parts of the picture I would like them to. Some lessons I learned were that when using iMovie trailers you have to be selective with what images you use so that they fit the slide and the transitions look normal. This project was about my Freshman year of lacrosse and creating it gets me excited for this upcoming season.
